Scottsdale Parks and Recreation achieved national re-accreditation in 2004 through the National Park and Recreation Association Commission for Accreditation. The City of Scottsdale is the only city in Arizona to have achieved this honor, having been initially accredited in 1994 and re-accredited in 1999. This process encompasses 155 standards in 10 categories including agency role and responsibility, planning, fiscal management, administration and organization, human resource management, recreation programming, facility and land use, safety and risk management, human resources, research and evaluation. The Parks and Recreation Division is also a three-time recipient of the prestigious National Gold Medal Award sponsored by the American Academy for Parks and Recreation Administration. This award recognizes outstanding park and recreation agencies in the field of park and recreation management.
